May Movie Night:
Sunday Night at the (Healthy/Enviro) Movies!
--Munch, Munch, Learn, Learn, Joy, Joy--sponsored by Earthsave Louisville--

Sunday, May 20th, 2012; 7:30 - 9:30 p.m.
(usually the 3rd or 4th Sunday of every month)

There are so many good movies to watch that can make us laugh, cry, rally for a cause, and generally increase our sense of wholeness and awareness. And when we watch them...

...they give us the munchies!!!

Join in on Earthsave's newest monthly venture: Sunday Night at the Movies and Healthy Dessert-Fest! Eat healthy while watching a meaningful film about food systems, the environment, fairness/justice, empowerment, sustainability, solidarity and other under-developed ethical/mental muscles in our society.

This food-and-film event is held monthly near the Beuchel By-Pass at the Baha'i Center, 3808 Bardstown Road, (look for the bright green sign and Earthsave banners by the road) which is well-equipped in a beautiful and spacious facility. There is a huge screen and sound system and light dimming for getting lost in enviro/health/eating movies--which is the point.

We will be showing one of the original and awe-inspiring environmental films that deal with food directly. For legal reasons, we will be vague about the name of the movie ahead of time, but anyone can call/email to inquire. The name of the movie will be something similar to "SOYLENT GREEN". It concentrates on the assertion that a society that lacks fruits and vegetables will be desperate and out-of-control. After 40 years, this is now a cult-film and is a must-see for many reasons. This film touches many issues but uses entertainment to make the point. There will be a discussion afterward--we want to hear your opinion of it -- and let's think together of where to go with the message of the film.

The films are typically shown on the 3rd or 4th Sunday of each month. Food sampling, socializing, and announcements start at 7:30pm and the movie starts at 7:45pm.

vegThe unique emphasis of this Earthsave event is desserts and snacks while viewing. We will celebrate those yummy snacks and desserts as we repast. (Did someone say "homemade vegan popcorn"? or raw vegan pie? or kale chips? or vegan cupcakes that take over the world?) Bring a dessert for 4 people, cut into small pieces, if practical. If you come without a dessertish food, that'll be $2 just to be fair.

We can all learn to munch on snacks (movie munchables) that are good tasting, good for the body and good for the planet. These kinds of snacks are not intuitive nor randomly stumbled upon -- it is intentionally passed on. If you eat healthy snacks, you might be fixated on just a faithful few--so use this event as an opportunity to expand your breadth of options. If you eat processed snacks (even if healthy), this is the time to adventure into DIY (Do It Yourself). Need ideas? Here's a website, but it's probably too high end: http://www.vegancoach.com/vegan-dessert.html The timing of this event is intended to infer that a supper has already been eaten and that this is dessert/munchies time.

Please forward this invitation to your friends, family, acquaintences and worst enemies... Let's get the word out! This event is catching on! Are you coming? Please RSVP, if you can, to louisville@earthsave.org

Thinking into the future...Send us your ideas for movies. Make your own movie clips and we will show them before the big show--after all, didn't movies used to be shown with movie shorts and cartoons before terrorizing trailers came along?
