Movie Night + Snack Potluck:
Saving the Planet One Bite at a Time
This month's film is another thought provoking, eye-opening barnburner. If all works fine, we'll be showing an awesome food-related (or EarthSave-friendly) film. Since education is the beginning of real and permanent change, then let's get some! And since food is fun and viceral, these movies always draw us in.
Someone will be around for some thoughtful post-screening discussion and action items.
The films are typically (although not this month) shown on the 3rd or 4th weekend night of each month. Food sampling, socializing, and announcements start at 2:00 pm and the movie starts at 2:10 pm. Seeing good flicks on weekend night gives food for thought all throughout the week.
The unique emphasis of this monthly Earthsave event is to enjoy thoughtful desserts and snacks while viewing. Think: Low on food chain and carbon footprint-- and proud to be vocal about it. We will celebrate those yummy snacks and desserts as we repast. (Did someone say homemade-vegan-popcorn? or raw vegan pie? or kale chips? or oatmeal/carob cookies? or "vegan cupcakes that take over the world"? or just cut-up watermelon?) Bring a dessert for 4 people, cut into small pieces for communal nibbling, if practical.
We can all learn to munch on snacks (movie munchables) that are good tasting, good for the body and good for the planet. These kinds of snacks are not intuitive nor randomly stumbled upon in a stupormarket-- it is intentionally passed on from person to person. And even if you eat healthy snacks, you might be fixated on just a faithful few--so use this event as an opportunity to expand your breadth of options by observing other creations. If you eat processed snacks (even if healthy), this is the time to adventure into DIY (Do It Yourself). Need ideas? Here's a website, but it's quite high end: http://www.vegancoach.com/vegan-dessert.html The timing of this event is intended to infer that a supper has already been eaten and that this is dessert/munchies time.
Please forward this invitation to your friends, family, acquaintences, teachers and pupils... Let's get the word out! This event is catching on! Are you coming? Please RSVP, if you can, to firstname.lastname@example.org or call 502-299-9520--for a quick orientation to this "family/friends" showing event.
Thinking into the future...Send us your ideas for movies. Make your own movie clips and we will show them before the big show--after all, didn't movies used to be shown with movie shorts and cartoons before terrorizing trailers came along?
